"Relate the theory of Ethical Egoism to Kohlberg’s and Gilligan’s stage theories of Moral Development. Why might Ethical Egoism be an appropriate stage for young children but not for college students and adults? Furthermore, why might Ethical Egoists be attracted to self-sacrificing people of Gilligan’s Conventional Stage? "
Explain your response well since this is worth 25 points in your homework marking. CIAO!!!

An ethical egoist would most likely be in the conventional stage with some traits in the preconventional stage. Egoists would most likely maintain societal rules and regulations as they have consequences. They would also behave ethically to maintain relationships and/or some other form of benefit. An ethical egoist would more likely behave as an individual in the preconventional stage when they are alone or when they do not face any consequences. For example, they would cheat on tests if the whole class does it and the teacher won't be able to catch them. They would also view other's needs as important with consideration to their own needs. I think that egoists are conventional in the care perspective as they often don't view their own needs as all that matters, that would be an egotist. However, their concern for others would be based on how it benefits them. Maintaining good relationship to avoid being solitary or being nice so that you avoid trouble could be identified for egoists.
I think that egoism is appropriate for children, but also appropriate for college students and adults at times too. If it were an ideal society, egoism wouldn't be appropriate for college students and adults. If children were egoists, they would learn to respect others and respect societal laws and regulations. Even if it is for self-interest, they would still be able to recognize the role that society imposes to them. Children that aren't egoists, but more of egotists, would get into trouble more often and neglecting to reason viewing them as the most important as well as putting their feelings before others. Therefore, egoism is definetely appropriate for children as it is probable for them to become whereas a universalist ethics would not pop up as a child as children still rely a lot on their instincts and nature. Egoistic thoughts can help them understand society and how it functions. However, adults ideally should be more focused on rational selfless universalist ethics to foster an ideal peaceful society. However, very few adults are able to achieve and maintain this point of view towards society as most people often prioritize their own needs. Egoism would still be appropriate. The only problem is that in our society, some people have more wealth and power. Therefore, they are able to avoid many consequences of breaking society's conducts.
Ethical egoists would be attracted to self-sacrificing people because they would not have to act as moral as they would usually. The self-sacrificing people would probably allow the egoists to take advantage of their moral behavior.
An ethical egoist is more likely to be in the Preconventional stage. €As we know, ethical egoist aim for their happiness, believe that people achieve happiness by pursuing their rational self-interest. According to Kohlberg's stages of Moral Development, people who are in precoventional stage are more satisfy one's own needs; only consider the needs of others if it benefits themselves:” You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours."(pg.207) this is most likely how ethical egoist worldview base on. According to Gilligan's stages of Moral Reasoning in Women, people who are in Preconventional stages are more self-centered where always viewing own needs as all that matters (pg. 213); we may argue that egoist do concern about their surrounding, but actually egoist is well calculate in which action would benefit them the best, which is why they are more caring to their relationship. That’s why I claim that ethical egoist is more likely to be in Preconventional stage.
The Ethical egoism is more an appropriate stage for young children than a college student or adults simply because; according to Jean Piaget, children have their heteronomy stage or “morality of constraint”, which they still are not aware of what happening around them, know not what is right and wrong; in another word, naïve . In ethical egoism, unlike egotist, does not need approval or being self-centre to fulfill their self-interest. Unlike solipsism, does not imply that they are the only one in universe, but self-interest is still most important to them. Unlike Hedonism, do not claim for short term pleasure, but calculate for long term happiness. Under this system, children who is in their heteronomy stage, is able to learn how to fulfill themselves without approval, aware that they are not the only one around, and look further than just an short term pleasure, before they reach their autonomy stage. Therefore ethical egoism for sure is appropriate to young children. Unlike children, college student and adult is already an autonomous moral agent, which they more likely do not learn but think, in another word, they can denial what they don’t want to learn, which might lead them to become egotist instead of egoist. Therefore ethical egoism is more likely for children rather than adults.
Ethical egoist would be attracted to self-sacrificing people because there are neither rules nor respect needed in between them. Self-sacrificing people are viewing other’s needs as more important; therefore they will accept every action of an egoist, and egoist only follows what benefit them, of course egoist will always be attracted to self-sacrificing people, who always agree with them.

Ethical egoism is most likely appropriate stage for young children; they would be within the range of pre-conventional stage and conventional stage. First, ethical egoism all based their reasoning on individual self-interest. Therefore, you would often see children who get in to trouble, acting all selfish and only considering himself rather than other individuals around themselves. Ethical egoism would not be appropriate for college students and adults, but egoist would most likely to describe them. Egoist, still would satisfy one's need, but would also consider about laws, and avoid punishment. Ethical egoist could also be categorized in the pre-conventional stage, if there was no authority or punishment.
Ethical egoist would be attracted to self-sacrificing people of the conventional stage, because through this kind of individual were egoists don't need to concern about being as ethical as they usually were. And then taking advantage on the individual since, those self-sacrificing individual view other's needs more important than theirs.
